Best ways to use the card
The Citi Diamond Preferred® Card has a balance transfer offer similar to the one from Citi Simplicity®. This is the same 21 months of 0% APR on balance transfers along with 3% of each transfer paid as a balance transfer fee. To benefit from this offer, you should arrange your balance transfer within the first four months of account opening. The intro period starts with the first balance transfer transaction.
The most special part of the Citi Diamond Preferred® balance transfer offer concerns the time when it ends. Yes, the introductory period with 0% APR lasts 21 months, and this is one of the longest offers available. However, it ends one day, and you may still have a part of your debt unpaid. Here come the Citi Diamond Preferred® assets:
- Offering zero interest for 21 months, the card does mean it. In many similar offers interest is just deferred not waived. That means that unless you’ve paid off the balance in full before the intro period ends, interest may be charged on the whole amount of transferred balance for the whole intro period post factum. But this is not the case with this Citi card. It waives interest for the whole intro period, and after its end, interest may be charged on the unpaid part of your debt only.
- Another good news is that after the end of the intro period, the card has quite a low APR which may vary from 14.24% - 24.24%.
This is a fair 21-month long balance transfer deal. Use it and pay down your debt at a lower cost and at your own pace.
By the way, the card offers a 21-month introductory period with no interest on purchases which starts with account opening. If you want to benefit from this offer as well, make sure you don’t carry balance on purchases in the period when one intro period has already ended, and the other still lasts. In this period your different balances will have different APRs and according to Citi’s payment allocation policy, your payment will go preferably to the balance with a lower APR. In this situation you accrue interest without noticing it. Find out how to avoid this in our review of Discover it® Card.
To qualify for this card, you should have a good to excellent credit score.
